The Canon City Area Fire Protection District has rescinded the fire restriction orders downgrading out of Fire Restrictions beginning on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 12:00 pm.  As Fremont County and surrounding areas of Southern Colorado continue to experience more precipitation and natural fuel moisture increases, critical fire conditions leading to extreme fire behavior potential has decreased. It is still imperative to be careful with any open burning or recreational fires for the safety of our community.

Please refer to the new open burn permitting and daily permission process found on this webpage.  This new burn permission process is in effect for all of Fremont County.  If you currently hold a paper open burn permit that begins with S1, S2, or S3 followed by numbers, you need to obtain a new permit.  This is available under a link on this webpage.
